BPA Free (now also BPS free)

News update that BPA replacement BPS is also not good for you.

Polycarbonate or Epoxy are the plastics where BPA / BPS is used, those use the recycling symbol 7 in the triangular recycle infographic - just avoid those if you are buying a plastic drinking container.

Alternately, use glass or stainless steel.

Cancer causing chemicals in your drinking water?

Recently I've been getting bombarded with NSF emails on the control of Nitrosamines in water products. I had no idea why these chemicals were being targeted, so I found out and wanted to share it with you.

Nitrosamines are a group of chemicals that are a by-product of rubber production, and specifically sulphur-cured rubbers. Wikipedia confirms that "Nitrosamines can cause cancers in a wide variety of animal species" and NSF is moving to limit their impact on humans. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrosamine)

The most recent news from NSF is that they have delayed the introduction of the additional testing until January 2016.

If you are in the water products industry, hopefully you've already moved to Peroxide cured rubber, which is slightly more expensive, but doesn't have the cancer causing elements and is more compatible with copper alloys, sulphur having some corrosive impact.

Either way, you might also like to avoid processed foods, which can use nitrosamines to extend the shelf life.

Economic Complexity

Thanks to Andrew Massie, I was fortunate to attend an evening with Goran Roos on the state of manufacturing in Australia.

It was a sobering evening, putting Australia in a very poor state of health for budding entrepreneurs. Goran reflected that the big issue is not the job-losses resulting from the collapse of the Auto Industry, but the loss of economic complexity that will result. If you're not familiar with Economic Complexity, follow the links below, it comes with some wonderful infographics.

The short story is that the economic complexity of Australia is around -0.3, on a scale of -1 to 2.5, where advanced economies are around 2. Yes, we have lots of GDP, but we are not using that to build a sustainable economy.

5) Count right now how many people can make a major decision that can ruin your life.

The way to avoid this is to diversify the things you are working on so no one person or customer or boss or client can make a decision that could make you rich or destroy you.

Start planning now how to create your own destiny instead of allowing people who don’t like you to control your destiny. When you do this count, make sure the number comes to over 20

10) Abundance will never come from your job
Only stepping out of the prison imposed on you from your factory will allow you to achieve abundance. You can’t see it now. It’s hard to see the gardens when you are locked in jail. Abundance only comes when you are moving along your themes. When you are truly enhancing the lives of the people around you.
When every day you wake up with that motive of enhancement. Enhance your family, your friends, your colleagues, your clients, potential customers, readers, people who you don’t even know yet but you would like to know. Become a beacon of enhancement and then when the night is gray, all of the boats will move towards you, bringing their bountiful riches.
